Corporate history

March 1939Shizu Furuzawa (the late honorary chairman) founded the Furuzawa lens factory in Mukaida-cho, Naka-ku, Nagoya.
November 1957Shizu Furuzawa established Koyo Kogaku Co., Ltd. as a corporate organization.
December 1957Masao Furuzawa established Shochiku Kogaku Co., Ltd. as a corporate organization.
April 1966Koyo Kogaku Co., Ltd. and Shochiku Kogaku Co., Ltd. merged and changed the name to TOKAI OPTICAL CO.,LTD.
November 1977Received The Aichi Prefectural Governor’s Award as an excellent rationalization company.
September 1981Invested in Sunlux Co., Ltd. to strengthen the plastics field.
June 1982Established a new factory specializing in plastics in Hinanakamachi, Okazaki City.
March 1983Received The Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Commissioner’s Award
March 1989Celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding. Commemorative magazine “Koubou no Fu” published
May 1990New factory completed in Okazaki Hanazono Industrial Park
September 1995Capital participation in TOKAI OPTECS nv to strengthen overseas sales
January 1996Received the 29th The Medium and Small Business Research Insutiture Award (currently “Good Company Award”) and district commendation
March 1996Obtained ISO9002 certification, an international standard for quality control and assurance
September 1997Expanded head office factory
April 1998Thin film division established
October 2000Established International division

March 2005Participated in the production of “Monozukuri Land Sinfonia” at EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan

October 2010Established TOKAI Optical Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, China
October 2013Changed name from thin film division to Optical Products division
March 2014Opened “Tokai Optical Web Shop Rakuten Ichiba”
March 2016Joshi-Kai product “Bibi Pink” was selected as an excellent winning idea at the Cabinet Office’s Innovative Research and Development Promotion Program (ImPACT).
April 2017Awarded by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry as an excellent company that utilizes the intellectual property rights system.
November 2018Optical Sensor Concentrators Developed and Manufactured by the Optical Products Division are Installed in the “Cherenkov Telescope Array”
June 2019Established TOKAI OPTICAL AUSTRALIA PTY LTD in Queensland, Australia
